Periodic Inspection & Testing

What is a periodic test?

A periodic electrical inspection (EICR - Electrical Inspection Condition Report) is used to verify if your electrical installations have faults that cannot be identified with a simple visual check, to reduce any risk and to provide a safe environment.

Our engineer will perform specific tests and complete a mandatory report on the condition of the electrical installation, detailing any defects or damage observed, as well as any non-compliance with current safety standards.

What is tested during the inspection?

The electrician will test and inspect the fixed electrical installations in the property. For example: wiring, plug sockets, light fittings, electric cookers, fuse boxes, electric showers, extractor fans, etc.
Periodic testing will pinpoint any defective electrical work in your system, such as electrical circuits overheating or becoming overloaded during use.

Safety checks will not be carried out on movable item such as: appliances, televisions, kettles, etc. unless the  landlords requests that they also perform a Portable Appliance Test (PAT).

Althought PAT testing is a legal requirement for commercial businesses, it isn't for domestic premises, but it's a recommended way to keep your home safe.

Our Electricians can make any immediate hazards safe before they leave your home.

The Electrical Safety Report (EICR)

Once you have completed a periodic test the electrician will provide the owner with an electrical system condition report (EICR).

This report can confirm that all installations meet safety standards.
Or that further investigation or repair work is required for deterioration, damage, defect or other dangerous aspect that could put people at risk.

It will also tell you when the next electrical safety check is due.
For Commercial Businesses and Landlords is a legal requirement to carry out an inspection and test every 5 years.

EICR Codes

In the event of a periodic inspection coming back negative, it will be recorded in the EICR as “unsatisfactory”, indicating that work is required immediately to remove the risk to anyone who is living or working in the property.

Any required work is classified using specific codes:

F1

Further investigation needed.

C1

Dangerous installation. Not suitable for continued use. Repairs needed immediately.

C2

Potentially dangerous installation. Not suitable for continued use. Repairs needed urgently.

C3

Improvements recommended but not required.

When your electrical system has fully passed the periodic inspection and any urgent remedial work is complete, you will be supplied with an EICR Certificate of Safety, giving you reassurance that your property electrics are safe.
