Electrical inspection, testing & EICRs

Understand the condition of your electrical installation

Discuss your project

An electrical inspection should give you useful information, not just a document. We assess the installation within an agreed scope, explain the findings and help you prioritise any recommended work.

Experience that makes a difference

Inspection intervals and the work required depend on the installation, its use and the applicable requirements. We will discuss your site and records before agreeing the scope. Recommendations follow the actual findings; we do not promise a satisfactory report before inspection.

EIC, EICR or minor works: which do you need?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) records the findings of inspection and testing of an existing installation, within the agreed scope. It helps a homeowner, landlord or business understand its condition and any action recommended.

An Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) relates to completed installation work, including new installations and new circuits. A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) can cover suitable additions or alterations to an existing circuit; it does not cover a new circuit or consumer unit replacement. We issue the appropriate document for the work undertaken.

Plan the inspection, then act on the findings

Before quoting, we discuss the type and size of the installation, circuit information, previous records and access. Testing normally involves isolating circuits, so the effect on occupants, equipment and business operations needs planning.

Afterwards, we explain the observations, any limitations and the recommended next steps. Where remedial work is needed, it can be scoped separately. Certification of repairs should be kept with the original report so there is a useful record of what was found and what was completed.

Clear findings and a sensible plan for what comes next.

Before we get started

Your questions,
answered.

Is an EICR the same as an electrical installation certificate?

No. An EICR reports on the condition of an existing installation. An EIC certifies the installation work it describes. We establish which service is appropriate rather than treating the documents as interchangeable.

Can you provide a certificate without doing any inspection or work?

No. Reports and certificates must relate to the inspection, testing or installation work actually undertaken. If you have lost an existing certificate, first contact the contractor who issued it; a new condition report does not recreate that original installation certificate.

How much does an EICR cost, and how long will it take?

The scope, number of circuits, available records, access and type of installation affect the time and quotation. Send those details and any previous report. We will explain the proposed inspection and likely interruption before you book.
